Survey of 30,000 Laptops Lists
ASUS as Top in Reliability Rankings
SquareTrade, the largest independent warranty service provider in the United States, published a report that analyzed the
failure rates of over 30,000 new laptop computers manufactured by the leading nine notebook brands over the past 3 years. A
minimum of 1,000 notebooks from each brand were sampled.
With three year malfunction rates under 16%, laptops from ASUS are nearly 40% more reliable than HP, the worst performer
in this study. HP, the industry leader, which shipped nearly 16 million laptops in the past year according to IDC, ranked dead
last in this reliability study with over one-fourth of laptops expected to malfunction in three years. Gateway and Acer, the no. 2
maker of laptops, were also nearly unreliable as HP, with an expected malfunction rate of over 23% (pg 6).

Marks in History: ASUS Notebooks
ASUS notebooks have been tested in the most harsh conditions and the most exotic locations. Many of these incredible actions have become
the stuff of legend. We detail the accomplishments that have left an indelible mark on history here.
In outer space
Zero defects during 600 days in space!
Two ASUS notebooks were selected by R&K, a major computer and electronics supplier to the
aerospace industry, to provide astronauts with dependable computing hardware.
“ASUS notebooks never overheat like those made by other companies”, said Sergei Avdeev, one
of the Russian cosmonauts. “Thermal flow in space and on Earth is completely different. Only
notebooks with the best cooling can survive continious operation. We used our ASUS notebooks
all day without a problem.”
In the air
Helping the NRMA CareFlight helicopter rescue unit save lives.
NRMA CareFlight, an emergency medical and rescue helicopter unit serving New South Wales
in Australia, uses ASUS notebooks in different fields, including aviation, medical treatment,
and adminstration. ASUS notebooks play a critical role in CareFlight improving survival rates in
severe head trauma incidents. They help medical teams arrive on-site faster than ambulances,
with fatalities lowered by 33%.
“All out pilots are very impressed with ASUS notebooks and amazed at their ability to withstand
aircraft vibration,” said Mark Lees, Community Relations Manager of CareFlight. “We are ready to
install ASUS notebooks in all our aircrafts and link them to onboard navigation computers.”
On the road
Flawless performance during grueling off-road racing.
ASUS notebooks performed critical tasks at the PATAGONIA 2000 race, which saw them used in
hote deserts and snow-covered mountains. They acted as navigation devices, exceling due to
their built-in GPS functionality and dynamic map displays. They were also mobile communication
centers, enabling email and video conferencing.
“Needless to say, ASUS computers survived the severe conditions of this strenuous voyage
without a single flaw,” said race organiser Aviv Shweky.
On the world’s highest peak
First notebooks to scale Mount Everest.
Conditions at the world’s tallest mountain may faze other notebooks, but several ASUS models,
including the U5/S6 leather and bamboo editions, W7 and U1 were chosen to accompany an
expedition to the top of Mount Everest, know locally as Qomolangma. Upon reaching base camp
at 500m, only ASUS notebooks continued to operate. Other notebooks failed to boot due to
extremely low ambient temperatures. The U5 even made it to the peak at a height of 8848m,
with expedition leader Captain Wang Yongfong carrying it as a tribute to eco-friendly technology
and making ASUS the world’s first notebooks at the top of Mount Everest.
At the ends of the earth
Conquering Antarctica.
Perfect performance records in freezing temperatures at the South Pole have been achieved.
A December 2003 expedition that included acclaimed mountaineers Shi Wang and Jian Liu
set out to reach the summit of Mount Vinson, the tallest peak in Antarctica at 16,000 feet,
where temperatures drop below -100°F. Wang and Liu brought ASUS S200N notebooks to
record and share their experiences.
