Chapter 1: Product introduction
1.7 System memory
1.7.1 Overview
The motherboard comes with two Double Data Rate (DDR) Dual Inline
Memory Module (DIMM) sockets.
The following figure illustrates the location of the sockets:
• When you installed four 1 GB DDR memory modules, the system
may detect not more than 3 GB of total system memory because of
address space allocation. This limitation applies only to systms with
Windows
®
XP 32-bit operating system since it does not support PAE
(Physical Address Extension) mode.
• We recommend that you install less than 3GB of total system
memory when using windows XP 32-bit operating system.
• Always install DIMMs with the same CAS latency. For optimum
compatibility, we recommend that you obtain memory modules from
the same vendor. Refer to the DDR400 Qualified Vendors List on
page 1-14 for details.
1.7.2 Memory configurations
You may install 64MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB unbuffered
ECC or non-ECC DDR DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory
configuration in this section.
